– Deborah Burrell, chief of staff for Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md. The American Mustache Institute had claimed Bartlett supported the ‘Stache Act, which calls for a $250 tax break for facial hair grooming. (via officialssay)

Not Even Once of the Day: A Florida woman was arrested yesterday for burning down the fifth oldest tree in the world while smoking meth inside of it.
The iconic 118-foot Seminole County cypress tree known as The Senator, estimated to be some 3,500 years old, burned to the ground in January following what police believed to be an arson attack.
But a Crimeline tip led investigators...

wins the nomination, so Obama can properly trounce the nastiest, purest strains of theocratic thuggery in this country, instead of allowing them the satisfaction of claiming Romney was an impure vessel.
Yeah, that’s an issue. If Romney’s the nominee and loses, then we’re going have to deal with another four years of “we would have won if we had nominated a...

Pierce's thoughts on yesterday's primaries →
Charlie:
There’s bound to be a great settling beginning right about now. Romney’s gotten about as much out of his relentless pandering as he’s likely to get — He talked last night about both “the Death Tax” and “a Democrat Congress.” His wingnut jargon coach deserves a raise — and so we are likely to hear more of what we heard last night, which was...

McCaffrey: making money by whipping up support for... →
Glennzilla:
One of the prime offenders was Gen. Barry McCaffrey, who was not only a member of the Pentagon’s propaganda program, but also, according to Barstow’s second stand-alone article, had his own “Military-Industrial-Media Complex,” deeply invested in many of the very war policies he pushed and advocated while posing as an NBC “analyst”
In a nutshell, McCaffrey has a history of...

Big night for Mittens →
McMorris-Santoro:
Sure, Rick Santorum gave Mitt Romney a run for his money in his home state. And he should be proud of that. But by not pulling it off, signs point to Santorum making things much harder on himself moving forward than the results indicate.
Operation Hilarity notwithstanding, Romney won Michigan with around a 4% margin (and won Arizona quite convincingly). Good news for...
Snowe bows out →
Kleefeld:
In a major development in the race for control of the U.S. Senate, Maine Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe announced Tuesday that she is not running for a fourth term — setting up a serious Republican vulnerability in a state that was previously very safe for them.
Well, this is a surprise.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is withholding F35 payments to Lockheed. What the hell is going on? I feel like I woke up in a bizarrely sane place today. Facts mattered and people were accountable!
Of course, then I realize tomorrow will be all “WHY WON’T OBUMMER GET US OUT OF AFGHANISTAN? Is that where they hide...

Dildoes mandating Dildoes →
Via Charlie:
Sen. Greg Reed, R-Jasper, voted to move Senate Bill 12 out of committee last week because he said it’s a good bill that would help “a mother to understand that a live baby is inside her body.”
Right, because obviously the State of Alabama is a lot more aware of what’s going on in any given womb than the owner of said womb. What. A fucking. Douchebag.

The upshot is that conditions there have not been improving, and are currently getting rapidly worse. The sooner we can get ourselves out of that place, the better.

If you think Wolf Blitzer’s blog post about the intensity of this campaign is finished, just wait. He quotes three lines from last night’s debate, then writes four more one-sentence paragraphs:
And that’s just for starters. Just wait for what’s coming.
By the way, the president and his supporters will not be shy in fighting back.
And like the Republicans, they will have hundreds...
Santorum: what a model home schooler →
O’Hehir (on Li’l Ricky’s hypocracy regarding public funding for education):
From here, Rick Santorum does not look like an independent-minded man of principle, however misguided — and still less like a model home-school parent. He looks like another angry white guy who wants to cut taxes and slash government and declare his John Wayne independence from society, but is still...

and so was born Operation Hilarity, the DailyKos-led effort to drive progressive voters to the polls for Santorum and serve up a loss to Romney.

Shorter Romney: yes, I'm richer than you. Suck it. →
Brad Blakeman - GOP strategist (quoted in TPM):
“Trump never goes on defense on his wealth and, if anything, is obnoxiously offensive,” said former George W. Bush adviser Brad Blakeman. “His popularity comes from the fact that he is successful. Romney needs to be positive about his wealth and how he earned it.”
So… the advice here is for Mittens to be more like Donald Trump? Oooookay,...

More Mittens vs. Li'l Ricky →
Farley:
and I suspect that Ron Paul will also bite into Santorum’s base. So to speak.
lolololol
More seriously:
Unlike in 2008 when two essentially identical Democratic candidates fought it out, I suspect that wrangling with Santorum will push Romney farther to the right than he’d like to be.
This is another important way that 2012 is not like 2008.

Yet another of the many ways an improving economy undercuts the GOP’s position. It’s not surprising that they actually fought against most efforts to improve the economy - it would be bad for their electoral prospects.

What are Ron Paul's real goals? →
Sarlin:
As far as negative campaigning goes, Paul rarely gets mentioned as a mudslinger but he’s actually run some of the toughest ads of the cycle. And, in a nice coincidence for Romney, they’ve often come just as he’s targeting the same candidate with the same message.
Not sure if this is really just a coincidence or if kindly old Dr. Paul is actually looking for a seat within a...
