Most of the discussion regarding the general improvement in economic conditions has focused on the implications for the general: obviously, good conditions are good for the incumbent. But what does it mean for the GOP race?

It’s hard to imagine that a better economy is anything but bad news for Mittens. As discussed in the linked article, the GOP seems to realize that they’re not getting anywhere with their economic message and are pivoting to culture warfare topics - but that’s not fertile ground for Romney in his fight against Li’l Ricky. As much as it pains me to say it, I have to agree with the Santorum camp: if economic problems recede into the background, what does the GOP need Romney for?
