There was a lot of talk last year, as the GOP field began to shape up, about how horrible the nominees were. Unfortunately I didn’t save the link at the time, but someone I read frequently made a remark to the effect that looked at individual, each candidate had some fatal problem that should make him/her utterly unable to win… and yet, one of them was going to have to.

Amazingly, even though the field has thinned considerably, that’s still where we are today. Newt is widely perceived as unstable. Li’l Ricky Santorum is a religious nutjob who is never going to fly with anyone to the left of Oral Roberts. Mittens is a member of a religion widely viewed as a cult among important segments of the GOP electorate, he’s Mr. 1%, and is widely perceived as a fake conservative; and as a result, his support is best described as “tepid”. And Ron Paul is, well, Ron Paul.

Given that ONE of these guy has to win… I suppose it’s Romney? I guess? More or less as the default non-totally-crazy guy.
